Queen Garee is the wife of King Kitticut, ruler of Pingaree. They have one son, a boy named Inga.

History

When raiders from Regos and Coregos invaded the island, the queen and every other citizen of Pingaree were taken captive and carried away to become slaves. Inga eventually liberated them with the help of the Wizard of Oz. (Rinkitink in Oz)

Background

L. Frank Baum originally wrote the Queen's name as Uaie, to be pronounced by spelling it out. His editors said that this would be too confusing for children, so he changed her name to a truncated version of her homeland.
