I am positive that the copyright information provide as pertaining to Thompson and Neill is in error. While the "author's life + 70 years" term is current for copyright (except in the event of corporate authorship, where the term is 95-120 years) and applies to books written and/or published after 1978, it does not apply to Thompson and Neill's canonical works, which were all published prior to the 1978 law. The law that applies to their books states that a work is copyrighted for 28 years plus an additional 67 if renewed, for a total of 95 years. In other words, the first currently-protected Thompson book, The Cowardly Lion of Oz, should pass into the public domain in 2018, and each remaining book in the series will enter the public domain on a yearly basis.
