Timothy James Curry (April 19, 1946-) is an English actor and singer. He is known for working in a diverse range of theatre, film, and television, most often portraying villainous characters. He voiced Captain Fitzgerald in Lion of Oz and Tin Woodman in an episode of Wonder Pets .
Curry was born in Grappenhall, Cheshire on 19 April 1946. His father, James Curry, a chaplain in the Royal Navy, died when Curry was 12 years old. After his father's death from pneumonia in 1958, his family moved to South London.
Tim Curry's first major role in acting was in the the original London cast production of Hair in 1968, where he met Richard O'Brien. Years later Curry would work with O'Brien once again to work on The Rocky Horror Show in 1973 where he portrayed the tranvestite mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Curry would later portrayed the character once again in the movie adaptation The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The role is seen as one of Curry's most notable performances of his career. In an interview with NPR, Curry called Rocky Horror a "rite of passage", and added that the film is "a guaranteed weekend party to which you can go with or without a date and probably find one if you don't have one, and it's also a chance for people to try on a few roles for size, you know? Figure out, help them maybe figure out their own sexuality".
He also has been in many theater productions such as Amadeus, playing the title character, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Spamalot and A Christmas Carol as Ebenezer Scrooge in Madison Square Garden.
Tim Curry is more well known for various films such as Home Alone 2, Legend, Muppet Treasure Island, Legend, and Clue along with many more roles. He is also well known for his portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the 1990 miniseries IT based off the novel of the same name by author Stephen King.
Tim Curry has provided voices for many movies and television shows such as The Wild Thornberrys, Peter Pan and the Pirates, Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, FernGully: The Last Rainforest and many more.
In 2012, he suffered a massive stroke that left him wheelchair bound. He's last major role was as The Criminologist in the television film remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 2016.
